Should I go to the clinic or the hospital?
The Neepawa Health Centre (Hospital) is staffed by local family physicians, who provide service to patients who are experiencing a medical emergency.  Examples of emergencies include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Chest pain
  • Severe shortness of breath
  • Severe numbness or weakness involving a large part of the body
  • Broken bones
  • Severe injuries requires x-rays or stitches
  • Uncontrolled bleeding
  • Severe skin burns
  • Eye injuries
  • Poisoning or medication overdose
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Seizure
  • Severe pain
  • Respiratory infections that are too severe to wait until the next clinic day
  • Children under the age of 1 year with a fever
  • Child with fever and stiff neck
  • Child with vomiting and diarrhea that does not stop

People often visit the hospital with conditions that are not urgent.  Misuse of the emergency room has a significant effect on health care resources.  Receiving care in the doctor’s office at the clinic can be done for a fraction of the cost.  Also, physicians providing after-hours emergency services at the Neepawa Hospital often work full clinic days both before and after being “on call”. We ask that patients keep these things in mind when deciding whether to call the clinic for an appointment, or whether to visit the ER.

What do I need to know about my medical appointment?
  • Bring your MB Health Care to all medical appointments
  • Advise staff of any changes to your phone number, address, or other contact info
  • Advise staff if your visit is related to a WCB claim or insurance form
  • Please call to cancel your appointment if you do not plan on attending.  This allows for other people to access care.

Can I get a sick note from a physician?
Please do not attend the Emergency Room in order to obtain a sick note.  These requests can be facilitated at the clinic, during regular business hours.
Many employers require documentation for sick days taken off from work.  Clinic visits for these services are not covered by Manitoba Health.  There may be a charge for this service.

How can I get disability forms completed?
If prolonged time off from work is required due to a prolonged disability or illness, it may be necessary to have forms completed by a physician.  This is a non-urgent matter and should be planned in advance.  There is a fee for completion of these forms.

What do I need to bring for a Workers Compensation Board claim?
WCB is an insurance program whereby employees can be compensated for injuries incurred at work.  It is important to be proactive with making a claim.  Be sure to provide your claim number to the doctor, chiropractor, or physiotherapist that will be completing your forms.

What are your fees for non-insured health services?
In order to have your health care needs covered by the publically-funded health care system, you must hold a valid Manitoba Health Services Card (MHSC).  Please ensure that your card has not expired, and be sure to bring it with you to every appointment and hospital visit.

Many services that are requested of physicians are not covered by the publically-funded provincial medical system.  Patients are required to pay for these services.  The following is a list of common non-insured services:

  • UFCW note    $10.00
